Master classes of mulitilingualism

EUNIC Paris in collaboration with La Mairie de Paris have organized three master classes for the promotion of the multingualism in three school of the city. 

With this action of EUNIC, the six european cultural centers in Paris, British Council, Camoes Institute, Instituto Cervantes, Istituto Italiano di Cultura, Polonaise Institute and Suisse Institute participate in this project for the promotion of the multilingualism between the public schools of La Mairie de Paris.

The goal of this project is to put in touch to the children about the richness of the multilingualism and multiculturalism in the European Union. For to do, three master classes, each one with 14 sessions, will be from September to December 2016.

This initiative has been possible thanks to the collaboration between EUNIC Paris and La Mairie de Paris who search the same goal, the promotion of the European culture. 

         Workshop 1 School: École élémentaire 6, rue Littré (6e)         Session 1: Association Kidilangues 02/09/2016: 38 children distributed by the three participating schools first spoke to Europe about their knowledge (number of countries, travel, languages ...) and played the Puzzle Country on a computer in order to listen to the country name in French at In the languages of the country and to better situate them. All the children stuck the two puzzles on their notebooks.       Session2 and 3: Camoes- Instituto da Cooperaçao e da Língua 09 and 16/09/2016 : During the workshop of the Portuguese Language we made a Journey into the world of Lusophonie! To begin with we worked on linguistic skills of acquisition of basic communicative structures through a game. At the end we elaborated a puzzle with all the flags. During the workshops, sociolinguistic and pragmatic skills were developed to activate knowledge already acquired (in mother tongue) and to apply new learning in real communicative context.       Session 4 and 5: Instituto cervantes 23 and 30/09/2013: The intervention was very satisfactory. The students showed their motivation and interest in Spanish, participated and had fun in both sessions. Everyone has learned to stand up and recite the numbers. The presence of the coordinator contributes to the smooth functioning of the workshop.       Session 6: Istituto Italiano di Cultura 7/10/2016: Presentation of Italian geography: the Italian boot and its peculiarities.Challenge in small groups: what are the Italian words you already know? The winners chose the following activity: reading and commentary of Pinocchio (at home I advised to listen to the song "Il gatto e la volpe" - Edoardo Bennato - with their parents). Children are very interested in languages, they participate actively and work really well with all.       Session 7: Istituto Italiano di Cultura 14/10/2016: We learned the numbers (challenge in two groups) and to introduce ourselves (Mi chiamo ..., ho 10 anni, sono francese, abito a Parigi): challenge of all against all. We listened to a song (La Gatta - Gino Paoli), we talked about what the children understood at the first listen; We watched a video of the song with drawings and we commented on what we saw and finally we read the text of the song and we tried to sing it all together. The children memorized all the notions very quickly thanks to their curiosity for languages.       Session8:British Council 04/11/2016: The workshop was very good going and the boys were super motivated and hyper active. We did not have time to complete all the activities but apparently they liked to work in two to look for information about the English speaking countries on the walls of the class.       Session 9: British Council 18/11/2016: They discovered Anglophone countries on the plan and participated in a team effort to answer the questionnaire. After that they had to identify the flags, the famous people, the famous buildings, the typical dishes and some figures like the population, etc. Their level in English was strong and they were all the same age (CM2). A facilitator was present after and during the workshop and he was very organized and helpful. Challenge in small groups: what are the Italian words you already know? The winners chose the following activity: we learned the numbers and presented ourselves (Mi chiamo ..., ho 9 anni, sono francese, abito a Parigi) The children are very dynamic and participate actively.Session 3: Istituto Italiano di Cultura 20/09/2016:We listened to a song (La Gatta - Gino Paoli), we talked about what the children understood at the first listen; We watched a video of the song with drawings and we commented on what we saw and finally we read the text of the song and we tried to sing it all together. We carried out a TPR (Total Physical Response) exercise: I issued orders in Italian (toccati la testa, tocca il tuo amico, siediti, alzati) and then three pupils gave the same orders to their comrades.Session 4: British Council 04/10/2016:The workshop was very good going and the boys were super motivated and hyper active. We did not have time to complete all the activities but apparently they liked to work in two to look for information about the English speaking countries on the walls of the class.Session 5:Instituto Cervantes 11/10/2016: We started with a little introduction to Spanish: where we speak Spanish, which form the Spanish speaking community in the world, which is special about the language. Together, we looked for words that we already know in Spanish, a famous Spanish-speaking, French-Spanish. Then we went to the presentations: "hola, qué tal, cómo te llamas, como estas, cuántos años tienes". This part of the workshop will be developed in depth the following day. Today we mainly worked with numbers, by a couple of games that require children to memorize the numbers. The group is large, 18 children. They followed the workshop before.Session 6:Instituto Cervantes 18/10/2016: We are dedicated throughout the workshop to make card games to learn the numbers well. The students were divided into several groups and each with a Spanish platform were playing different games. They were essentially games in which they had to practice the vocabulary of the numbers we had learned before. Everyone learned and had fun.Session 7: Polish Institute 08/11/2016:This first workshop was very dynamic and allowed the children not only to learn how to greet in Polish but also to discover the country and its capital. The children were asked to fill in the map of the country in Polish. Then we stopped in the Polish capital to know the legend of the siren that explains how the city was founded. The drawing of the siren to finish at home encourages to continue the discovery. Finally, we did a well known game of children "one, two, three, sun", but in Polish, it was necessary to do in addition to the gymnastics of the language: "Raz, dwa, trzy, Baba Jaga patrzy!"Session 8: Polish Institute 15/11/2016: The students were able to listen to the legend of the Wawel dragon: to the question what liked to eat the Dragon was steaks and hamburgers that were most often mentioned and not young virgins, as is usual for the Dragons. The children learned the colors (in Polish) of the Polish flag; It was enough to add "niebieski" (blue) to say the colors of the French flags. We had reviewed the expressions and words acquired during the first workshop. All the children stuck the two puzzles on their notebooks.Session 2Swedish Institute 09/09/2016: The children learned to say "I am" in Swedish and have told what they coined from Sweden. After they read um text on the day of a Swedish little girl who has their age and they made comparisons between countries. They sang and danced a traditional swedish dance and then they learned a few sentences.Session 3Swedish Institute 16/09/2016: For my second workshop (from Swedish) at the Fournier school we danced and sang (they liked!) And after a little revision of the vocabulary we had seen the week before we played charades and we Makes a game "memory".Session4 and 5: Camoes- Instituto da Cooperaçao e da Língua 23 and 30/09/2016 : During the workshop of the Portuguese Language we made a Journey into the world of Lusophonie!To begin with, we worked on linguistic skills of acquisition of basic communicative structures through a game.* Presentation and knowledge games with a ball:Afterwards we made an Exploration of all the countries that are part of the Lusophonie with Google Earth!* Presentation of the capital of each country with its characteristics; * Presentation of the flags of each country * The colors of each flag and the colors preferred by each student. From Google Earth, view a few monuments, natural parks as well as several main streets. Viewing animated presentations - Glogster * Link of tourist video of the countries of the Lusophonie * Flags; * Information for each country. We made an association games: Colors - country-flags and elaboration of a music, At the end we elaborated a puzzle with all the flags. During the workshops, sociolinguistic and pragmatic skills were developed to activate knowledge already acquired (in mother tongue) and to apply new learning in real communicative context.Session 6: British Council:07/10/2016: The first workshop was quite quiet because there were only 5 high ones. They discovered Anglophone countries on the plan and participated in a team effort to answer the questionnaire. After that they had to identify the flags, the famous people, the famous buildings, the typical dishes and some figures like the population, etc. At the end, each bred draws a poster on an English-speaking country that they could choose.Session 7 British Council: 14/10/2016 : The second workshop was more lively because it was 9 high. We began with a revision of the English-speaking countries and then they had learned a few words of vocabulary before listening and seeing a cartoon "George and the dragon". There they discovered the history of the patron saint of England and other countries and complete some exercises of understanding. In the end, they had to draw pictures of the story to tell at home. This workshop was the most interesting for them because they liked the video and draw the characters.Session 8 and 9 Instituto Cervantes 04 and 18/11/2016 : The first session was an introduction to Spanish: places where the language is spoken, famous people who speak Spanish, why it is interesting to speak languages ... Next we work the presentations, name, age, place of origin. We did several games to learn the numbers. In the second session we reviewed what we saw the previous time, we continued with the presentations and we did a written exercise to learn the alphabet.
